Task 4: Case Study Question - Marketing
Task 4 - Marketing
Write a second paragraph on marketing using the band London Grammar as the basis for your research.
Modern technology has enabled young artists to independently promote themselves in today's fast moving society. A prime example of this is the band 'London Grammar'. Such differentiation is obvious on the band official website as links for social media such as YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Soundcloud and Instragram can be found on top of the homepage. By placing a variety of links on their homepage enables easy access for the audience or visitors of the website, London Grammar have made it easier to find them by having clear and direct links to their social media. These links have helped London Grammar to independently promote their music. Also their being socially active on those different websites has helped them gain a stronger notoriety and has made easier self promotion, tweets such as:
'We'll be returning to Europe in 2014 for a headline tour! All info here https:// www.facebook.com /photo.php 15th November 2013' or 'Exclusive pre-sale for our Australian dates are now online - 4th October 2013' shows how the band is connecting to their audience by promoting and selling their music through social media. So we can deduct that having social networking as a free advertisement method is indispensable for not-well known artists. The band has taken advantage of YouTube's popularity and with 2,685,587 views of the single 'Strong' has acquired notoriety and so it found just beneath the website link. After carrying out multiple research with people aged between 16-20, a clear percentage of the participants that had at least purchased an album or track due to social media, was clearly found.

Also about 65% of those had listened to a song previously recommended on either Facebook or Twitter. 99% of those had at least one the sites used by London Grammar.
The free advertisement of social media on the self promotion of young artists has a clear correlation with their career success due to the possibility to reach out to a wider audience and market their production and distribution on variety of different sites.

GRADE A
This is a lot more like it. There are one or two weaknesses in expression, but overall the content is very string with specific detail a good feature (I loved the tweets as evidence) and clear analysis of each piece of evidence. Very good.

Media Studies - Sara Motolo
Discuss the impact of digital
technology on marketing within the music industry.
One of the
most important changes to marketing within the music industry has come with the
emergence of convergent mobile technology. For example a mobile phone which a
person can use for more than one purpose. For calling, texting, listening to
music or even read the news and navigate the internet. It is therefore easier
to access different types of media with only one device; this has an impact on
how media is distributed to the audience and on how it reaches the specific
target. People are more frequently using their mobile phones for other needs, so
media is becoming more accessible and also it is becoming easier for people to
get noticed with convergent mobile technology. For example many artists are
trying to get notice trough YouTube , a big platform as it has many views each
day so it quicker and easier to get noticed by important people, an example of
this is the artist Justin Biber which started his career by uploading videos of
him singing on YouTube , these videos were inexpensive as he possibly only
needed to buy a camera to record himself sing. This has led to many music company’s
contacting him for a record deal. He is now one of the most successful artist worldwide.
Also a sample
of teenage students from our school was asked if they heard a new song on their
phone (for example on YouTube) and if they then went to buy the album/single
for the song and in conclusion we found that out of 30 people 25 did. This
shows the increasing impact of this type of mobile technology on the music industry
as there is an increase of selling albums/singles trough this platform. People
can use this type of device when they are outside the house so it is more
accessible anywhere you go, this leads to a quicker diffusion of the media to a
wide population across the world as anyone from anywhere could easily access
it.
C GRADE
You made some good points and included both primary and secondary research, though this research will need to be more carefully considered to access the higher grades. Some attempt made at analysis as well. A good first attempt with the potential to achieve higher. Well done.
